Feeling Good

I started this month off a little slower than I would have liked, but things are coming together pretty well.  I have been eating well and exercising and all-in-all, I feel pretty good.  I definitely feel a million times better than I did three months ago.  I’m hoping to drop a couple more pounds before weigh in this weekend.  I don’t know that I will lose the most this time, but I’d like to try to be a contender.

I went to the movies yesterday and noticed that I fit in the chairs a little more comfortably.  I also had my toe nails done the other day and the pedicure chair was more comfortable than usual too.  It’s amazing how much I put up with, being heavy, before I did anything.  What a strange thing.  I wouldn’t stand for so many things in my life, but I stood for that, for quite a while.  Life only gets better and better each day.  I am so thankful that I found the motivation to do this and hope that I have the strength to keep it up.

Slow Start

I’m feeling a little behind this month.  I’ve had a very slow start.  The scale hasn’t been moving like I want it to.  So, I’m kicking it into over-drive.  No more skipping workouts or going over calories for the day.  The next 12 days is going to be all business.  I’m going to work out tonight and twice tomorrow.  I can feel the other contestants nipping at my heels.  If I want to stay in the lead it’s going to take some real dedication in the next couple of weeks.

Food For Thought

It was Hippocrates who said “Let food be thy medicine and let thy medicine be food.”  How could someone who lived so long ago have been so wise and we have become so confused.  The reason I bring any of this up is I have noticed in recent contestant’s blogs that they are losing weight/eating better/exercising and therefor, being taken off their blood pressure, diabetes, and cholesterol medicine.  And as of yesterday, I am now off of my cholesterol pills and two pills that I was taking for high blood pressure (one more to go).   It seems odd to me that every time I go to the doctor’s office, and something is wrong, they don’t tell me to quit eating the cheeseburgers and throw some greens into my diet.  The response is always that I can take a pill to manage that.  They’re not wrong, the pill does manage the issue, but is it the best way to go?  I’m certainly not a medical doctor, but it seems like nutrition should be a more vital part in our medical care.  Although, prescribing fruits and vegetables doesn’t bring in the money like a year’s supply of Zocor does.  I don’t blame the doctor’s either.  They save lives every day.  My general practitioner is amazing and I wouldn’t trade her for anything.  Nutrition can’t solve all of our problems, but it seems like if we took responsibility for some of our medical care through good eating and exercise we could only be better off.  Now the hard part….practicing what I preach!

Tough Start

This month has started off to be the most difficult month so far in the contest.  I’ve had a few stumbling blocks, but am still focused.  My eating has been in check and that is usually the hard part for me.  My motivation is good, so I figure the rest will fall into place.  I’ll keep you posted.

A Perfect Day

Things are going alright right now, but just alright.  Since the last weigh in, last weekend, I have been puttering along.  Not eating badly, but not eating well either.  I’ve been exercising, but not as intensely as I was.  I’m putting an end to that right now.  My goal is to have a perfect day.  A perfect day to me is eating well with no cheating and getting a really solid workout in.  Wish me luck!
